DESCRIPTION

VisioFocus PET measures the body temperature of animals at a distance and without contact, without disturbing them, in just a few seconds and in an extremely simple way. The measurement can be taken on the eye (recommended area). If, for any reason, it is not possible to take the temperature on the eye, it can also be measured from a distance on the ear flap, the gingival area, or the rectal area. VisioFocus PET is the non-contact thermometer for any type of animal.

• measures temperature at a distance from the eye or, alternatively, from the ear, rectal area, or gums;

• features a aiming system that also indicates the correct distance for taking the temperature;

• is hygienic and does not touch any part of the animal’s body;

• allows preset calibration factors to be adjusted to adapt to different animals (such as dogs, cats, horses, cows, hamsters, etc.);

• stabilizes quickly via Automatic Quick Calibration System (AQCS) or Manual Quick Calibration System (MQCS) and automatically applies a body temperature correction factor based on environmental conditions;

• allows measuring the temperature of objects, food, liquids (1–80°C), skin, and the environment.

VisioFocus PET can also be used to take temperature at the site of wounds, scars, burns, inflamed areas, or areas with circulation issues, as well as to monitor the temperature of muscles subjected to particular stress, for example, on racehorses.

VisioFocus PET Thermometer for Animals

Body Temperature Measurement: EYE

To take a measurement, simply place the thermometer near the target area and at the distance indicated by the device itself so that the detected temperature appears on the display. The aiming system indicates when the thermometer is at the correct distance, which is essential for obtaining accurate measurements. Proceed as follows:

1. First-time use: Insert the 4 supplied AAA alkaline batteries.
2. Open the protective cap by rotating it approximately 90°.
3. Press and hold the measurement button associated with the animal whose temperature you are taking.
4. Move the thermometer perpendicularly closer to the eye (or the chosen measurement area) until the arcs form a complete circle around the eye. If the thermometer is too far away, the two side arcs will be to the right of the upper and lower arcs (fig. 1). If it is too close, they will be to the left (fig. 2).
5. When a complete circle formed by the 4 arcs is visible (fig. 3), it means the thermometer is at the exact correct distance.

6. Release the button, keeping the thermometer still until the lights flash.

7. Read the value displayed on the screen. If desired, another measurement can be taken immediately.

8. Close the protective cap.

IMPORTANT: Aiming the tracking lights into the eyes is not dangerous. They are completely harmless! THEY ARE NOT LASERS, but normal LEDs compliant with the EN 62471 standard.

If measurement on the eye is not possible, the temperature can be taken in the rectal, ear, or gingival area—always non-contact and non-invasive.

Measuring Body Temperature: ALTERNATIVE AREAS

If measuring the animal’s body temperature on the eye is not possible or not recommended, one of the alternative areas can be used.

• Rectal area: Raise the animal’s tail and, while holding down the button, scan horizontally, keeping the thermometer perpendicular to the rectal area. This type of measurement is recommended for cows, as it is easier and more accurate for them than the eye measurement.
• Ear canal: It might be difficult to see the lights. Therefore, simply insert the thermometer as far into the ear canal as possible without touching it, aiming the lights toward the bottom.
• Gingival area (Gums): Lift the animal’s upper lip and take the temperature on the gum (this measurement area is not recommended immediately after meals).

Note: Generally, measurements taken in the ear and on the gums are less accurate than eye and rectal measurements.

Measuring Other Temperatures

You can also use VisioFocus PET to detect the temperature of objects, food, liquids, and surfaces from 1 to 80°C, after setting button 3 to (obJ) mode.

For example:

1. The temperature of food, pet beds, bath water, etc. In the case of liquids, be sure to mix them thoroughly before taking the measurement. For hot liquids or food, take the reading quickly to prevent condensation from forming on the waveguide, and wait 30 minutes before taking further measurements.
2. The ambient temperature, by pointing the thermometer at a wall or a piece of furniture.
3. The temperature of wounds, scars, burns, inflamed areas, or areas with circulation issues, as well as to monitor the temperature of muscles subjected to particular stress, for example, on racehorses.

These latter measurements must be considered as relative rather than absolute values. When measuring the skin, they allow you to detect temperature differences between two adjacent zones or symmetrical body parts. In these cases, the presence of fur is not a deciding factor, provided it is uniform across the areas being compared.
